Now a days career as food technologist is very much demanding and popular Field.

A food technologist is the one who determines the safety, claimed quality and legalities associated with a food product. A direct involvement can be in the manufacturing unit of a food product or in the developing recipes of food and beverage items.The field also involves techniques and processes that are used to transform raw materials into food. Extensive research goes behind making food items edible as well as nutritious. 

Food Technology is a science branch that deals with the techniques involved in production, processing, preservation, packaging, labeling, quality management, and distribution of food products.

Steps to become a food technologist

Pass class 12th Science stream

Earn bachelor Degree

Do an internship

Earn master degree

Gain some experience while doing master degree

Earn PhD degree for Research work

Eligibility

Candidates should have passed 10+2 from a recognised institution with PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) as major subjects.

Basic eligibility requirement is to have a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 or equivalent (relaxation rules apply for different categories and varies from college to college).

BSc (in Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry) or BTech/ BE (in food technology) degree with the minimum qualifying marks as prescribed a university/ college. 

Students can opt to pursue a degree, diploma or doctorate programme in food technology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

To pursue the course at undergraduate level.

Students can take up Food Technology jobs at undergraduate or postgraduate level. While a bachelor’s degree is sufficient to work as a food technologist, a master’s degree gives candidates the required competitive edge.

These careers may involve food processing, manufacturing, technical service, food product development, operations management, regulatory oversight and other technology based opportunities.

Salary

Starting salary after a master’s degree maybe around 40-60,000 per month which may gradually increase with experience up to 1-2 lakhs per month.
